Georgie Surgery Update!

Georgie had his life-saving amputation and is now recovering in his foster home! He is in high spirits, and quickly learning how to run, play, and eat on three legs.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. We have been hit by considerably more emergency vet bills this year than we had budgeted for, and without the support of our community we could not save cats like Georgie!

If you can, please donate to help us pay off the rest of his bills so we can say YES to the next cat in need!

Please Help Georgie the Injured Kitten!

Georgie, a small 5 week old orange kitten, with a mangled front left arm.

5 week old Georgie was happily playing and exploring when he got his arm stuck and, in his attempt to get free, hurt himself very badly. He was found Saturday morning with multiple fractures and open wounds. The emergency vet has a plan to hospitalize Georgie and amputate the limb to avoid infection and save his life. Once recovered, he will live a perfectly happy and healthy life, however, we need your help to get him through his hospital stay and surgery.

Help us get Georgie through his surgery so that he can find his forever home!

Give Hitchhiker a Lift!

A scarred face, a bent ear, scruffy fur – and a huge heart. That’s Hitchhiker. He’s also a cat who is FIV-positive, which means a compromised immune system, so he needs help to get back to full health and find his forever home.

“He’s a hitchhiker – just passing through,” or so the farmer thought when the cat showed up at her farm. He seemed very rough, maybe feral. He didn’t meow for food – he roared. So Cathy fed him, and within days – in spite of his intimidating roar – he had won her heart. She offered him a place on her farm, and had him neutered – but her resident cats vetoed that plan.

That’s when Cathy called us.

Now in a 9 Lives foster home, Hitchhiker has started to reveal his true colors. He was outgoing from the first. Even in a new place, in pain, worried about what these new humans might do to him – he still turned to them for help. Within hours Hitch was asking for head rubs. Coming from a hard life in survival mode, he turned out to be incredibly forgiving, with lots of love in his heart.

But Hitch needed several teeth extracted, treatments for his infected ears, and the rough skin issue turned out to be ringworm, a fungal infection. The good news? Hitch is one tough guy! His foster is administering meds and he has already started to improve.

Exciting Adoption Fair!

It was an exciting adoption fair last Saturday at MadCat! Our first spring kittens were old enough for adoption and went to wonderful new homes.

Congratulations to Kristina and Lillian, who adopted Bobblehead and Beanie Baby! 🎉

Richard and Catherine adopted Funko Pop, and they quickly posted on Reddit that they’ve already fallen in love. How could they not!? 😻 Reporting from their Reddit post, “We found this great little guy through 9 Lives Rescue. We’ve named him Leap because he was born on 2-29. … A big shoutout to 9 Lives for having such dedicated volunteers….” Awww, thank you Richard and Catherine!

If you’re looking for a new feline companion, please visit our Adopt page to view currently available cats and kittens. There you’ll also find an adoption application, and you can start the approval process. We look forward to hearing from you! 🐈

Adoption Fair, May 18, MadCat West, on Mineral Point Rd

Date: Saturday, May 18, 2024
Time: 11 AM to 2 PM
Location: MadCat Pet Supply, 7820 Mineral Point Road

Kittens and cats from 9 Lives are coming to MadCat’s Mineral Point Road location! If you’re hoping to adopt a new feline family member, this is the place to be! Join us on May 18 from 11 to 2.

Who will YOU meet at MadCat? Check out our adoptable kitties here. Let us know if there’s a specific one you’d like to meet, and we can make sure he or she is there – or we can make arrangements to suit you.

Be sure to submit an adoption application, especially if you’re hoping to take your new kitty home that day! Please allow several days for us to process your application. A real human will contact your references and confirm your status.

IMPORTANT: kittens under 12 weeks must be adopted with another kitten or go to a home with another age-appropriate cat. 9 Lives’ policy recognizes that cats are very social animals, and kittens will be happier and healthier if they can socialize with another kitten.

A big thank you to MadCat Pet Supplies for hosting us!

Thank you, Kibble 4 A Cause!

The 9 Lives Rescue coffers are $1,685 happier now, all due to the wonderful Kibble 4 A Cause radiothon fundraiser! 9 Lives’ Anna Goebel (far right) is shown at the station with Ski from JJO (also holding the presentation check) and the radio personalities from the other three participating stations. From left to right in the back: Pat Gallagher from Magic 98, Miranda from The Resistance, Kristi from Q106.

Live broadcasts were made from the event, held April 11, by all four stations. Donations poured in from the supportive community and sponsors. The event was held at Barks on Bourbon in Cross Plains.

In-kind donations were also dropped off at the event, including cat and kitten food, litter, toys and supplies. We took home quite a mountain of goodies provided by generous donors and sponsors.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, but especially to the local radio stations – 94.1 JJOMagic 98106.7 The Resistance, and Q106! They not only do a great job of organizing and promoting this event, they genuinely care about the work we do and the animals we help. We feel seen and supported, and we can’t thank them enough!
