The “Kittens are Coming! Challenge, January 30th

Cats are starting to purr at 9 Lives Rescue! They’ve heard there’s a matching gift up to $5,000, and that means more help is coming their way!  🌈

9 Lives Rescue has a matching gift that will allow us to rescue more cats who are out there struggling to survive. Every donation you make on January 30th will be doubled, because an anonymous cat lover has pledged to match every donation up to $5,000!

That’s a lot of medications for sick kittens, and help for the injured and suffering.

If you’d like to help save lives in 2024, and if you’d like your donation doubled and have twice the impact, please mark your calendars now and plan to make a gift to 9 Lives Rescue on January 30th!

Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for updates!

No wonder the cats are purring!

The Adventures of Ducky

📗 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲! ☕️

What better way to wait out a blizzard than to read about a legendary 9 Lives cat?

We recall the adventures of Ducky, who cut an unconventional path into the heart of her foster mom, Kelly. It’s a tale of blood, sweat, and a destroyed furnace. And it’s a story of the relentless care and devotion that our 9 Lives volunteers give.

As Kelly tells the tale, “This little peanut was a ‘spicy’ kitten when I got her and that was an understatement for her. Picking her up at the house she was at before she came to me took over two hours (finding her was one thing, but catching her and getting her in a carrier was a WHOLE other thing) and resulted in several weeks on antibiotics for me after she ripped both my hands to shreds trying to catch her.

“Once I got her home and started working with her, she was so scared of people that she shoved herself into an air vent and crawled all the way down into our furnace through the ducts. After five hours of tearing down air ducts and destroying our furnace, we ended up getting her back into the house by trapping her in a section of duct work and carrying the whole thing upstairs with her in it. Believe it or not, that was the day I knew I couldn’t live without her, thus resulting in her adoption into the family and a well-earned forever name: Duct.

“Fast forward to today, Ducky follows me and my husband all over the house asking for snuggles. She loves meeting new people and is the most loving, cuddly, little grey cloud in the world and we love her so much. Stories like hers are what it’s all about for me; sometimes the spicy ones just need someone to love them for who they are, and the love they give in return is worth it all.” ❤️

Adoption Fair, Jan. 13, Tabby & Jack’s Middleton

Date: Saturday, January 13, 2023
Time: 11 AM to 2 PM
Location: Tabby & Jack’s, 6925 University Avenue, Middleton

9 Lives will be back at Tabby & Jack’s in Middleton! Join us on Saturday, January 13, to meet adoptable kittens and cats!

We have kitties of all ages waiting for you! Check out our adoptable kitties here. Let us know if there’s a specific one you’d like to meet, and we can make sure he or she is there – or we can make arrangements to suit you.

Be sure to submit an adoption application if you’re hoping to take your new kitty home that day! Please allow several days for us to process your application. A real human will contact your references and confirm your status.

Note also that kittens under 12 weeks must be adopted with another kitten or go to a home with another age-appropriate cat. Cats are very social animals, and kittens will be happier and healthier if they can socialize with another kitten.

A big thank you to Tabby & Jack’s Pet Supplies, our wonderful host store this week! You can do all your kitty shopping at the same time!

Apple Pie and Sundae Beat the Odds!

Apple Pie and Sundae have beaten the odds! Vets at the UW Vet School today officially declared the adorable Apple Pie and Sundae to be adoption-worthy, and likely to lead long lives. Woohoo! For a couple of kittens who were given just three months to live—this is amazing news!

Because of 9 Lives Rescue – and because of YOU – these kittens are now four months old, no longer on hospice care, and THRIVING! Did I mention adorable?!

The “Dessert Kittens” were born in the care of 9 Lives, who rescued their mom. It was discovered that they had birth defects, including club feet and a flattened chest cavity. “Pectus Excavatum” was life-threatening, and we made plans for surgery. Sadly, after we had raised funds for surgery, the vets recommended that we not pursue it after all, and we sadly moved them to a different foster for hospice care as we expected them to get gradually worse. For the story up to that point, please read their GoFundMe page.

But they got better! They played like crazy things, ran with the other kitties, learned to climb. They were clearly not shaped right, and their breathing looked bizarre when they exerted themselves. But their club feet disappeared, their muscles worked, and they were kittens with every fiber of their being! They ate; they grew. They were joyful.

After a few weeks, we allowed ourselves to hope – and today we had our hopes confirmed. Their skeletal structure was significantly improved. The UW Vets – who remembered them from when they were tiny! – said there was no reason they shouldn’t lead long, happy lives!

Apple Pie and Sundae will be listed for adoption. As our very popular ambassadors, they are likely to get quite a few applications. If you are interested in possibly adopting them, we recommend that you apply today. They will be neutered/spayed on January 2, after which they will be listed together as bonded siblings. We will choose the best fit from among the applicants.
