We’re so excited you’re considering volunteering with 9 Lives Rescue! As a completely volunteer-run organization, our mission of helping cats in and around Madison wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Whether you’ve helped with animal rescue before or are just curious about what we do and how you might be able to help, we’d love to get in touch.
Fostering
Fostering cats and kittens is one of the most rewarding ways you can help animals. As a foster-based rescue, we rely on our fosters opening up their homes to the cats we care for. Whether you can care for a single cat for a few days or litters of kittens all year round, we’re always willing to work with our fosters to make sure the cats in your care are a good fit.
Foster Requirements:
- An area suitable for the cats you will be caring for, including places for the cat to move around, play, and hide.
- Litter, food, and water. 9 Lives Rescue can help provide some of these items from our donations.
- Regular cleaning and attention.

Volunteering
Volunteers are crucial to keeping 9 Lives Rescue running. They help in a variety of ways, whether they’re working directly with the cats at events, helping from their homes in their free time, or something in between. Our volunteers contribute to every part of a cat’s time in our care, from intake to adoption.
Some of what our volunteers do include:
- Transporting cats between fosters, medical care, and adoption events
- Caring for animals while fosters are away
- Providing basic medical care
- Trapping stray cats for TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release)
- Posting to our social media
- Working and planning events such as adoption fairs and fundraisers
- Processing adoption applications
- Matching adopters to their perfect cat
- Applying for grants
- And so much more!
If you are interested in volunteering, there’s a role for you. If you have any questions, include them in your application.
